Streets Maintenance Schedules

Throughout the year and different seasons, there is a large amount of maintenance that happens on the district's streets. Indian Hills General Improvement District (GID) has over 14 miles of streets to maintain. Please remember that this is also weather dependent. For example, we do not sweep when there is snow and ice on the street.

The only maintenance that we try to keep to a precise schedule is the sweeping. We try to keep the sweeping on schedule so that people have an opportunity to move their cars and other vehicles from the street on the days their street is getting swept. Please keep in mind that when other issues arise in the district, we may have to push the sweeping day out by a day or two, but we will do our best to keep it on the listed day.

The sweeping plan is as follows:

  • On Thursdays, all district streets on the west side of the district (west of HWY 395).
  • On Fridays, all district streets on the east side of the district (east of HWY 395).

In the Spring (March - May), the Streets Department will be doing the following maintenance. Again, keep in mind that this depends on the weather.

  • Painting - stop bars, parking stalls, handicap stalls, crosswalks, etc.
  • Spraying weeds - spray the gutter pans and transverse cracks with a pre and post emergent to prevent growth.
  • Fill potholes as needed - clean the dirt and debris from the pothole, apply perma patch, and compact with a vibra plate.
  • Sweeping - per the street sweeping schedule.

In Summer (June - August), the Streets Department will continue some of the Spring tasks, as well as adding some maintenance during the warmer weather.

  • Painting - complete any painting not done in the Spring.
  • Spraying weeds - spraying the same area but switching to a weed control instead of a pre emergent.
  • Repair and / or replace regulatory signs - we evaluate the condition of the district's street signs (stop signs, speed limit, crosswalk, etc) and either repair or replace them as needed.
  • Fill potholes as needed - the same as in spring.
  • Sweeping - per the street sweeping schedule.

The Fall (September - October) schedule includes the following:

  • Prep for Winter - ensure that plows and sanders are fully operational and ready for use, and verify the supply of cinders.
  • Spray weeds - spray the same areas again with a pre / post emergent.
  • Sweeping - per the street sweeping schedule.
  • Crack Seal - seal cracks to deter the flow of water into the streets and subgrades.
  • Clean out the Drop Inlets (DI) - DIs are the stormwater drains that you see along the street. That's where the water flows down into the district's stormwater system. In the Fall, the district cleans out the DIs with the vac truck to ensure water can flow through the districts stormwater system.
  • Fill potholes as needed - fill potholes in preperation for winter storms.

Winter (November - February) changes the maintenance. The following maintenance is performed during the Winter months:

  • Plow / Cinder - plowing is per the District's Snow Removal Policy
  • Sweeping - the sweeping schedule continues year-round, but remember that we do not sweep when there is snow / ice / excess water on the road.
  • Crack Seal - seal cracks to deter the flow of water into the streets and subgrades.
  • Pre-storm & Post-storm checks - ensure stormwater can move unobstructed through the district's storm water system. This includes checking DIs, gutters, and culverts.
