Parks Maintenance

Our Parks & Streets department works year-round to keep the district maintained. All of the streets, parks, catch basins, stormwater system, and culverts are maintained by a crew of 3 people.

There is not a precise schedule of maintenance for this department as there are always several variables in play for their scheduling. Weather is a very big variable, as well as budgetary constraints and priority levels.

Spring (March - April)

  • Dethatch and aerate all the district's lawns.
  • Mow, trim, and blow the parks.
  • Pre-emergent treatment of weeds.
  • Fertilize district's lawns.
  • Prepare the ball fields for sports use.
  • Sand and paint the benches, tables, and trash cans in the parks as needed.
  • Inspect playground equipment for hazards.
  • Daily checks of the parks and facilities to empty garbage cans, clean restrooms, and resupply restrooms.
May contain: fir, plant, tree, nature, outdoors, scenery, grass, wilderness, landscape, park, vegetation, road, and gravel

Summer (May - September)

  • Mow, trim, and blow the parks. During the summer this is 1 to 2 times per week as needed for each park.
  • Fertilize the district's lawns monthly.
  • Weed control in the parks and other public areas weekly.
  • Maintain the irrigation in all parks to include replacement of heads, adjustments to timing and levels, and cleaning as needed.
  • Drag the ball fields as needed.
  • Replace dead plants as needed.
  • Drag the exercise trail once per week.
  • Inspect the playgrounds for hazards weekly.
  • Daily checks of the parks and facilities to empty garbage cans, clean restrooms, and resupply restrooms.

Fall (September - October)

  • Fall cleanup of all inlets and outlets in all irrigation ditches, retention ponds, and ravines. This includes removing trees, shrubs, and debris that will hinder the flow of storm water.
  • Trim the trees and shrubs at all parks and district public areas once as needed.
  • Spray pre-emergent to fight against weeds toward the end of the season.
  • Fertilize district's lawns monthly.
  • Final mow, trim, edge, and blow of all parks toward end of season.
  • Winterize the district's irrigation systems to include shutting down all systems, removing all backflow devices, opening the bleeder valves, and turning off the timers.
  • Daily checks of the parks and facilities to empty garbage cans, clean restrooms, and resupply restrooms.
